The problem

Many types of records are already eligible for sealing under Colorado law. However, they require many unnecessary barriers including filing a court petition, paying filing fees, attending hearings, and securing legal representation.

The new Clean Slate legislation will eliminate these unnecessary barriers by automating this process and automatically clearing people’s records once they become eligible.

Why This Matters

For many households, the stigma of a record needlessly creates ongoing obstacles to long-term employment, education, safe and affordable housing, and family health and well-being. By automatically sealing eligible records, Colorado can make good on our commitment to helping families succeed, invigorate our economy, and connect businesses with an underutilized and valuable workforce.
